Costume design
Hi Folks!
Back to a new post, still talking about Télencephale, at least until I put it at internet to open view.
Before start talking about this week post I'd like to thank all the people that came to the prémiére at FEMIS. I'm pretty happy with the amount of friends that came to see the film and give their support.
Today the subject is the costume design. I designed this style guide of the characters of the film to start the research for costums. With such a low buget (80 euros for the set design and 0 to costume design!) it wasn't my idea to have the same exact render during the film, but I confess that I was happly surprised with the proxymiti of the final results.
My special thanks to Salomé Osorio that gently lended us some of her beautiful bijoux (site here), to Lola Lembrez that contributed not only to the costume, but also with all the set design, and thanks again Avril!

Télencéphale is on!
Back from two isolated months in Côte d'Azur i'm full of news.
And its with a great dose of happiness that I come in this post to announce: Télencéphale is having next tuesday, september 7 its prémiére.
This is the very first exibithion of the film (clip) in his 16mm version. And as it wasn't enough is at the same day of my birthday! Yes, an exact year after having my femis entrance at the day of my birthday, i'm having my film exhibited at the same day, too many reasons to celebrate.
I made a preview poster for the ocasion...
For those ones that would like to know the music of the clip there is a good indication: The webpage of Jaycee. There you'll find the song Télencéphale, theme of the clip and base of inspiration for its screenplay.
Soon some more news!

Playback
Today, nothing but text.
During my days of research for my videoclip I met Andrew (thanks Begon!), that became my personal assistant for the movie. More than this, he became a good friend that's pretty cool besides being interested in the production of this film.He lent me a book, Playback, that's the catalog of a namesake exposition at Paris MAM (Museum of Modern Art).In this book I found the best definition of a videoclip I've ever seen till now. It's an article from Anne Dressen, trustee of "Playback" exposition. I would like to share this with you:
"Plus qu'une simple radio visuelle, le clip est schizophrène: couple à trois liant son, images et paroles, écartelé dans une relation incestueuse et adultère avec le cinéma et la publicité, oscillant entre soumission et insolence, trop long pour une publicité, trop court pour un film, trop vendu pour de l'art..."
"More than a simple visual radio, the videoclip is schizophrenic: a couple of three that links sound, images and words, quartered in a incestuous and adulterous relationship with cinema and advertising, swinging between submission and insolence, too long to be advertising, too short to be a film, too bribed to be art..."
Fuck the limits, concept rules.

BCN
Hi everybody
This thime a little break to talk about my last break... What the f?I'm talking about my last holidays, that I spent at BARCELONA. This musical, architectural, beautiful and pretty cool city that I heard to talk about since I decide to left my hometown: São Paulo, and I finally knew last month.
It's incredible the fresh feeling of this place and how colored are the streets and the people that leave there. The buildings look like they were conceived with graffiti in their projects. They all have drawings and organic forms. Some streets have no difference between the levels of the street and the sidewalk, it turns everything into a really graphic look.
The musicians play they're own songs in the streets. That's a significant difference with Paris, where, except from some street big bands, the street musicians play old known songs in the same old way.
So, I leave you all with some images of the city and my first uploaded video on youtube. A live session of Los Kalakos at Parque Guell.
See ya!

The Funky Scan!
Hi,
after some time without news, I'm back! This time, I'll show you the base for an animation sequence that's part of Télencéphale videoclip. It's not finished yet, but now I can see a direction for the film production design. For my personal work, it is really important that i work out the graphics before shooting. It's the only way I know how to work. I think in images, and all my life I've been doing two-dimensional projects. The comic book and video game influence is clear. The storyboard is my visual guide for this film; nevertheless, it is important that it be flexible so that my team and i are not blocked creatively during the shoot.Next post I'll show you a preview sketch of the song "Télencéphale!"prepare your ears, hugs, Mathé

Wanna be starting something...
Hi, I'm Rafael Mathé and this is my blog.
Here you'll find my different experiences with drawing, cinema, comics, graphic design, motion design and a series of different supports I'm trying to work with. With some luck I'll suceed in some of them...
I hope you don't pay attention to my bad english, but I have no doubt that this is the best way to talk to a bigger number of people and its sure that all my friends will be able to read my texts.
I start with some images from the storyboard of the film Télencéphale. It's a 16mm film that I'll direct and is produced by Femis (the film school that I'm attending in Paris) as the final project of the 1st schoolar year. It's a videoclip for an original song composed by JayCee. It's the beginning of the process and I'm sure that I'll discuss a lot more about it here.
Thanks for visiting "The Velvet Content". You're more than Welcome here.
